January 28, 29, and 30: Basketball and Snowdom

January 28, 2010: My first UC Basketball Game

Yea, I know it's sad but I haven't actually sat in on a basketball game my whole 4 years. This was my first one and the women lost by like 3 points, it was a good game though, very close. I didn't stay to see the men play, it was a lot of fun anyway. I'm glad I went.

January 29, 2010: The Snow Begins

We were warned about a HUGE snow storm all week. I even heard we were supposed to get up to 20" and it was going to start one Thursday. Well, Thursday came and went and no snow, and then Friday morning came and still no snow. Well finally about 7pm it started snowing. Here is a picture taken about 11pm.

January 30, 2010: Walking to Wal-Mart and snow sledding

Yes, some friends and I decided to walk to Wal-Mart in the snow. It's only about a mile away but it's a hard mile when you're walking through snow. While we were there we bought some tupperware to sled on and then we came back and found the best hill at UC and had a blast. We ended up braking the tupperware we bought though. It was a good but exhausting adventure.

January 26 and 27: Uneventful and Eventful

January 26, 2010

Yesterday was VERY uneventful. Things seem to happen that way, I'll get a ton of pictures one day and almost none the next. I was actually laying in bed when I realized I hadn't taken any pictures that day so I tried to get creative, this is the lamp beside my bed, I hang the necklace I wear just about every day on it before I got to bed.
I did find out I didn't get the part I tried out for. Oh well, I'm glad I tried out for it anyway.

January 27, 2010

Today on the other hand was VERY eventful. These are wolves, well they are hybrids (part wolf). My supervisor at my internship helps out at a wolf rescue and she took us to see it today. The wolves were gorgeous! There was even one who looked as big as a bear. The lady who owns it takes in many hybrids who have been mistreated in some way. There is a lot of work that needs to be done at this place and I offered to volunteer on the weekends, so I just might get to help out at a wolf rescue, how freakin' cool!!! They are making a web-site for the rescue, once they get it finished I'll put up the link
I also went to an after school program with the kids we work with for my internship and we played with a parachute, it was a lot of fun.

January 25, 2010: Good Times

So, I'm pretty sure I'm going to get beat up for posting this picture and it probably won't stay up long. But it's funny so I posted it, I caught her right before she put her hand in front of the camera.
I had a really good day today: I got to play with some kids at my internship, I tried out for a play (eek, we'll see how that goes), and it ended with Kyla and having some weird animated person online repeat some funny messages like "why does your butt smell so bad?"
good times, good times

January 23, 2010: Trip to the Falls

okay, so this isn't a picture of the falls, but we were at the falls when we took it. :) This is me and my best friend. It was a perfect day for going up there, not too cold. The falls were beautiful as always and getting away from the college and into the woods a bit was nice. No long walks this time though, we'll save that for another day. It was fun and I learned that you can't skip coal...

January 22, 2010: Late Night Snack

Late night trips to McDonalds or Wendys for icecream is a pretty often occurrence, sweet tea and burgers aren't so much but today I felt like it. Cafeteria food isn't all that great to say the least.

January 19, 20, and 21: Jenn Grinels, Trip to Louisville, and China?

okay so I am gonna cheat a little on here

January 19, 2010

No, I did not take this picture. I did take a picture with my phone but it doesn't seem to want to work and I don't feel like messing with it so this will work. Her name is Jenn Grinels and she performed at UC on the 19th. I got to go to a conference in Atlanta with the Campus Activities Board to pick out the performers that would come to our school this year and she was definitely one of my favorites. Her music is awesome, you should look her up on youtube.

January 20, 2010

Yesterday I drove to Louisville to go to a prospective student session for the Masters of Social Work program and U of L. It was fun but very VERY tiring to drive there and back all in one day. While I was in Louisville my mom took me to a Chinese restaurant and they had a little koi pond where you could feed the fish. It was fun and this little orange fish was probably the highlight of my day.
The fish expected to be fed because as soon as you walked over they swam right to you and this little fish was apparently very hungry because he kept opening his mouth like this to eat when there was no food. Poor little fish, I laughed at him for a while before I fed him.

January 21, 2010

So this guy set up a booth here at school today and I passed by it several times. But after dinner Lucas stopped to talk and got some information so I thought I would too. It's a program to go over seas and teach people English. They have several programs that range from a summer program to a two year or longer program. There is no way I could afford a summer program but...
The two year program sounds amazing. You get to go over seas, teach people English through a Christian organization, earn your masters degree from Wheaton college possibly for free, get a place to live, and get paid. I've always wanted to travel and be a missionary but it never worked out while I was in college so I just put it on the back burner. This is something I will definitely have to pray and seek God's will about.

January 17 and 18: Mom's Visit and Stupid Stupidness

January 17, 2010

So every time my mom comes to visit she cleans my room. But before she cleans it, she pulls everything out and makes a HUGE mess. This is the mess she made with all my stuff. She did actually finish cleaning this time. Last time she visited me she made a huge mess and never cleaned it up. She also turned all of my hangers around!

January 18, 2010

This is what I call stupid stupidness. It's physiological psychology and it is definitely NOT my field of interest. I am not a fan of anything that has to do with biology. Sadly, I have to take it for my masters program. It did come with a coloring book though :), that might make me like it just a tinsy bit more. We will see.

January 16, 2010: Homework

Well, it's only the first Saturday after school started and I'm already busy with homework. Here is my desk. I think I spend more time looking out the window and spinning that top that's on my book than doing actual homework haha. You can also see by my calendar that I am too poor to buy a new one so I just rewrote the days. My whole day wasn't consumed in homework though, I did get to see Sherlock Holmes which was much better than I expected.

"How often have I said to you that when you have eliminated the impossible, whatever remains, however improbable, must be the truth?" Sherlock Holmes

January 15, 2010: These boots were made for walking

I didn't get any pictures while I was out today so I had to be a little creative once I got back to the room. These are all the shoes I wear in the winter. Obviously, I am definitely not a shoe person. I've got my flip-flops for shower shoes, two pairs of house shoes :), snow boots, and my tennis shoes that I wear everywhere. I am definitely a wear what's comfortable person and if it were up to me I'd go barefoot most of the time.

January 13 and 14: Internship and Car Trouble

January 13, 2010

This is the building I do my internship at. It's a program called Bridges and they work with some kids in the school who have behavioral problems. I'm really excited about learning to do all the work they do. I've already got to do some home visits. This is what most of my semester will be, I'm only taking two regular classes. It'll be a nice break from a normal semester, especially before I dive into my masters program.

January 14, 2010

I had a little adventure today. My car died because I accidentally left the inside lights on. This is a picture of us putting the wrong wires on the wrong switch, they were all smoking. You can see where it got so hot it burned through the rubber.
I also had a flat tire. We aired it up to take it to wal-mart but the guy there said it was VERY close to busting out. He showed me the inside of the tire and it was torn up all the way around it in different places. Good thing it didn't!

January 12, 2010: The Gas Scare

Lucas, my best friend, woke me up at 2:30 this morning because he was having really sharp pains in his side, he thought he might be having problems with his appendix. So me, him, and Andy Vanover went to the hospital. They ran some tests and it turns out it was just gas. He's the one person I would take to the emergency room for gas. :P
While we were there we watched some show about the real event The Perfect Storm is based of off. It was pretty interesting and I learned some useful information like not to drive straight into a tornado, something Andy would have done, and how to rescue someone at sea.
It was 8am before I got into bed and I slept until 3 so I was a little out of whack today. I took this picture on my way back into my dorm after we got back. Snow makes for dangerous conditions but awfully pretty pictures.

January, 11 2010: Sunrise at Cumberland

I started my internship today and I had some errands to run so I got up extra early. Nothing here opens before 8:30 though so I could say it was pointless but I did get this picture out of it. What a beautiful morning.

Catching Up

January 8, 2010

I woke up and went outside and saw this strange message written in the snow. How odd.

January 9, 2010

This is what I do when I'm at home, rent movies from the library and sit around and watch them ALL DAY! At least, that's what I did this time. I recommend all of these, especially Broken Trail, it's really good. Oh, and that book mark sitting on top of the movies is from national geographic and it has little seeds inside. I can't wait till it's warm so I can plant it!

January 10, 2010

This is my favorite tree in the whole world. One solitary tree in the middle of a field, it's beautiful all year around. If you want to see it look for it on Highway 92, on the way to Williamsburg or McCreary depending on which way you're going. I moved back in today for my last semester at good ol' UC. I start my internship tomorrow, I'm really excited. I can't believe four years is almost over! Like I said before this year should be interesting....

Shalom!

Disconnected

Hello all, I'm just letting you know I haven't given up on Project 365. I just don't have internet access, and now I don't have much time to load up pictures, so I'll add them tomorrow probably. Anyway, I hope your enjoying the snow!

January 7, 2010: Driving in the Snow

My dad drove me home from Louisville today and it was crazy. I saw a bunch of people stuck in ditches or on the side of the road. I didn't see anything too serious though, thankfully. We also did our own share of skidding and sliding. We made it alive though and I got some cool pictures, this is one of them.

January 6: My Grandparents

This is a picture of my grandparents shortly after they were married. I messed with the picture a little to try to get it to stand out. I wanted to get a picture of some of grandma's decorations while I was up here, and this sits right next to her couch. It doesn't really count as a decoration but it'll work. No quote for today either, I'll just stick with...

SHALOM!

January, 5 2010: The Self Playing Piano

Some friends and I went to see Avatar today in 3D. It was my second time seeing it, I actually got to see it yesterday too with my uncle, and it's amazing. I suggest you go see it!!
Anyway, I'm a small town girl and going to a theater with 4 different restaurants is almost as much of a treat as seeing the movie itself. In this one, they actually had a self-playing piano. It was neat. I don't know if you've ever seen The Ghost and Mr. Chicken but it reminded me of that. No ghosties in this picture though! It did take me forever to get a picture with more than two keys down, but I finally got it. :P
This is off topic, but I feel I need to end these things with a quote or something. I'm not prepared today though so I'll just end it with what one of my professors always ended class with.

SHALOM!!!

January 4, 2010: The Parker Family

When I come to Louisville I get to see my baby cousins. Aren't they adorable! Left to right: Leanna (who turns four this month), Hayden who is three, Kaylee who is one and Laura.
Three kids under the age of four, you can imagine how crazy that house was. I'm surprised I got them all to get in a picture together! After just a few hours I was worn out and deleting a bunch of pictures of half of people's faces. Leanna had stolen my camera. I don't know how Laura does it.

January 3rd, 2010: The search for the soup continues...

It only took me 3 days to come up with a picture of food. haha! okay so here is the story..
A year or so ago I went to a convention and we stopped at a restaurant and at this restaurant they had the most amazing soup in the world, I kid you not. It was one of those bottomless bowl and salad things, and I had to try every soup (even though there were only 3) because they were all the best soup I've ever had. Well, the sad thing is I cannot remember what the restaurant's name is. My best friend does and I ask him repeatedly what it is but after he tells me I always forget again.
Well, with it being about 6 degrees outside I was craving some soup and thought I'd try O'Charlie's and see if there's was the soup I'd been searching for. I get there and it's the same bottomless bowl and they even had some of the same soups so I think I've found it! I did think they weren't as good as I remembered but I just pushed that in the back of my mind and thought my memory was just playing tricks on me. Some things are always better the first time.... Anyway, I get home and I call up and tell my found I've found the soup and they tell me, nope wrong place Ashley, it's Chilies. So I'm sorry O'Charlies, your soup was good but it wasn't the best, and my search for the soup continues... At least now I know the name, and have it written down, so maybe I'll get it next time!

Project 365!!

Hello everyone! First thing I should tell where I got my name from.

"Love has a hem to her garment,
That reaches the very dust.
It sweeps the stains from the streets and lanes,
and because it can, it must."
-Mother Teresa

It's one of my favorite poems, if you are able to do something like helping someone I believe you have a responsibility to do it.

So now that that is explained, this is officially my first blog. Project 365 has inspired me. For those of you who don't know what it is, you basically take a picture every day for a year. It's Jan. 2nd so I have some catching up to do. This should be an interesting year though; I'm graduating from college in May so all my pictures should give some insight into a very important transition time in my life! I'm really excited about this project 365 thing, I hope whoever takes the time to read this enjoys it as much as I will!

Okay so here goes...

January 1st, 2010

So for my first one I had to choose between pictures of some of my favorite people playing risk and this one. We brought in the new year with a good ol' viscous game of risk. Okay it wasn't that bad. Anyway, you can see this picture won...
I could almost swear that when you are sleeping, if you have a gnome, they will come to life and cut your hair or destroy your property or something of the sort. You should be warned, do not get a gnome, they are evil. Of course, Luke Skywalker seeks to destroy evil so here you have it... Death to the Gnomes!

January 2, 2010

This is my front yard. That white stuff is, you guessed it, snow!!! I love winter! I also thought this picture was appropriate for today because it shows my driveway and I took a very loooong road trip: McCreary co, then Grensburg, then Louisville.
Do you ever really dread going somewhere and then when you get there you're glad you're there? Well that happens to me a lot, especially when it comes to seeing family. I'm spending the week in Louisville, so we'll see how it goes. :) Until tomorrow!!
